The Welcome Mural was painted in the winter of 2008-2009. Commissioned by
the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, it incorporated an image of
the Health Center and the word welcome in the more than 30 languages spoken by
the staff and patients of the center.
More than 60 people attended workshops
to create the words and imagery and participated in painting the mural under the
direction of Susan J. Champeny.
Because of the high use of the lobby during Health Center hours, most of the
mural was executed during the night. In 2010, Susan was called back to add a new
portion to the mural when the telephone booth was removed.
